The Shorty List was started by Karen Young Chester whose interest in the childcare process was originally piqued when a daycare pronounced entering her then 5 month fetus on their waiting list as "way too late".  Coming from a career based in Hong Kong, London, and most recently Vancouver, Karen has worked as an award-winning producer and writer for broadcasters such as the BBC, NBC, and Citytv.  She founded Popinjay Media to produce online media with a family focus. She is also a mother to two preschoolers.  Both have inherited her husband's unfortunate gene for Star Wars fanaticism.
